Gazeboat: A New Trend?

This appealed to my sense of humor… A couple in Minnesota have built themselves a floating gazebo for their lakeside home.  It’s reported to be 18′ by 18′, motorized, with a table, deck chairs and a fish finder. A funky cross between a gazebo and a boat; pretty creative…! I think I still prefer my gazebo to be anchored and stationary.

UPDATE 03/13/2008: I found a picture of this floating gazebo.  It is quite creative.  My hat’s off to the true fisherman and gazebo fan who built it.

In the builder’s own words:

FLOATING GAZEBO
“I was going to build the Gazebo on the edge of my dock down by the lake but I thought ….I might just as well build the deck with floats on it
and I can then take it out fishing too. Has 15,000# capacity. The deck is 18ft x 18ft with 12 plastic foam filled dock floats that are 4ft x 4ft by 18 inch. high and the Gazebo is 10 ft. Hexagon with a table and chairs inside.

“Under the table is my trolling motor so I can take it out to my favorite fishing hole. The trolling motor is remote controlled wireless so I can be fishing outside and operate the motor. On the top of the table I have a LOWRANCE Fish-Finder with depth sounding sonar’s and temp gauge. I have 2 electric winches with 40# anchors. I have also built in a water pump so I can clean the fish right on the spot.

“Now I can relax and fish while my wife can sit and relax.”

We haven’t seen any floating gazebo plans yet.  If you are construction minded and handy, the description above should give you a few clues of how the floating gazebo is put together… He used a 10′ hexagon (six-sided) gazebo on the deck. You could construct your own from scratch or use a precut hexagon gazebo kit to speed your masterpiece along. Yardiac offers 10′ open sided hexagon gazebo kits with screen options and an all season enclosed gazebo kit with sliding windows and screens. Gazebo Hot Tub Design Idea

Isn’t this a beautiful gazebo hot tub design idea? This owner has opted to leave off the gazebo rails and floors, and set only the posts and roof over the inground hot tub as a shelter.  The outdoor lighting and hardscaping cap off this wonderful design idea.  Hot tub gazebos are becoming incredibly popular as more and more people seek to make their backyards into the ultimate private resort. 

 If you are thinking about building a gazebo hot tub, remember that the hot tub needs to be of a size and shape that will fit in your gazebo with room to walk around. You can build a open spa in your gazebo like the one pictured above.  You’ll need professional help to ensure that proper electrical supply lines, plumbing, and drainage are available.  You also want to ensure you have all the proper permits before starting construction.  

Another option, if you don’t have the yard space or don’t want to set up a permanent install, would be to set up a portable gazebo hot tub. A portable hot tub can be installed outdoors with little more than a concrete slab for support and may be run on your home’s standard 120-volt current.  Installation generally does not require permitting (please do check to make sure).  Insure that proper drainage is available;  check your hot tub manual or with your hot tub dealer for details. For maximum flexibility, you could pair a portable gazebo with your portable spa.  A few well placed large potted palms and other plants, and voila!  Near-instant backyard gazebo hot tub.
